7 years ago, right before I took on the presidency of JAMA (Jesus Awakening Movement for America), my wife and I ventured on a 43-day driving prayer tour of our nation. I wanted to get to know our country better, love her more deeply and increase my ownership of this nation. During this prayer tour, one of the places I was most looking forward to visit was the Korean War Veterans memorial is Washington D.C., honoring fallen American fallen soldiers.<\/p>\n

Engraved on granite blocks were the statistics of the cost of the war on American soldiers: 54,246 dead, 8177 missing, 7140 captured, 103,284 injured (1,789,000 American soldiers served during the 3 years of the Korean War). Another granite wall read \u201cFreedom is not free\u201d. A plaque on the ground had this inscription: “Our nation honors her sons and daughters who answered the call to defend a country they never knew and a people they never met.”<\/p>\n

As I read this plaque, I was so overwhelmed with gratitude that I burst into tears. \u201cGod! This good country, this nation of America who we owe such a debt of gratitude–don\u2019t abandon this country. Renew this nation through revival. America sacrificed so much for and continues to protect Korea, leading to Korea\u2019s incredible development. Now, we need to save and protect America through our prayers.\u201d I prayed this vow.<\/p>\n

As Koreans, we cannot and should not forget the grace God gave us through America. America sent thousands of missionaries to Korea to share the Gospel. The churches who deployed these missionaries sent their prayers and funds, leading to the establishment of modern schools, universities, and hospitals. They cared for the orphans and lepers. They brought promising young students to America to study. As a result, Korea has grown to be a missionary-sending, economic world power.<\/p>\n

The help that God graced for Korea through America has been incredible. America helped Korea in its independence from Japan. She rescued Korea during the Korean War. After the War, the American government, churches, and charity organizations poured their support into Korea, raising South Korea from the ash heaps.<\/p>\n

As we commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korean War, I want to express our thanks and blessing to the all the 16 nations who fought for us and the 5 nations who sent medical personnel and infrastructure. Most of all, we want to thank America for the tremendous sacrifice paid to save South Korea from communism. Though there aren\u2019t many Korean War veterans who are still living, I want to thank them all. It was our plan to hold a celebration feast on\u00a0 the JAMA Global campus in Texas but unfortunately, we had to cancel the event due to COVID-19.<\/p>\n
